John Drumgoole, Vice President of Community Lending at USA Mortgage, has spent his career working to open the door to homeownership for communities that have historically had a harder time walking through it. That work was recently recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal, which named him a Champion for Diversity and Inclusion.
Through financial education, community partnerships, and programs like Community Catalyst Connect, Drumgoole has helped aspiring homeowners build the knowledge, resources, and relationships needed for long-term financial stability. The program’s first event in St. Louis sold out, and it has since expanded to Houston.
Drumgoole’s guiding belief is simple: opportunity changes lives, for individuals, families, and entire communities.
Whether he is mentoring future leaders, pushing for more equitable access to lending, or walking a first-time buyer through the path to homeownership, Drumgoole sees his work as building pathways that let more people reach their potential. He points to the launch of Community Catalyst Connect as one of the accomplishments he is proudest of, calling out the community stakeholders and local leaders who showed up to champion wealth building through homeownership and to help sustain that momentum going forward.
Some of that drive traces back to an earlier chapter in his life. Years ago, Drumgoole wrote a novel and struggled to find a publisher willing to take a chance on a first-time author. Instead of giving up, he started his own independent publishing brand and released the book himself. It went on to win two literary awards at an event held at the Harvard Club of New York City. The story follows four families working to overcome long odds, and more than a decade later, Drumgoole still treats it as a kind of blueprint, one that continues to shape how he thinks about access, opportunity, and helping people move into a bigger room in the house, literally and otherwise.
Congratulations to John Drumgoole on this well-earned recognition, and thank you for the work you do every day to help more families find their way home.
